South Dakota’s Economy
Agricultural products are extremely important to South Dakota’s economy. The plains of South Dakota are ideal for growing wheat and other grains. Cattle and hog ranching is another important component of the agricultural industry. South Dakota is also a leading producer of ethanol, a petroleum substitute.

South Dakota’s Indian Reservations
South Dakota truck drivers may drive through or make stops in one of South Dakota’s many Indian Reservations.

Rosebud Indian Reservation:
Nestled on the Nebraska border in south central South Dakota, the Rosebud Indian Reservation is home to over 10,000 individuals. Truck drivers using route 83 in southern South Dakota will drive through the Rosebud Indian Reservation.

Standing Rock Indian Reservation:
One of the largest Indian Reservations in the United States, Standing Rock Indian Reservation is so large it spans northern South Dakota, into southern North Dakota. The Pine Ridge, Yankton, and Lower Brule Indian Reservations are also located in South Dakota.

There are several different types of truck driving jobs available in South Dakota. A South Dakota truck driver may find themselves working as a company driver or an independent contractor, transporting goods near national parks, on Indian Reservations, or across the Great Plains.
